In Aubry J.'s "Never Faking About You," Lynx Williams finds her life thrown into chaos when she's unexpectedly drawn into the world of Fire Carlson, a witty and charming man with a serious problem. Their history is one of constant bickering and undeniable attraction, but a single event forces them into a precarious arrangement: pretending to be a couple to protect Fire's children. Living under the same roof, navigating fake dates and real feelings, Lynx must decide if her attraction to Fire is genuine or a convenient distraction from the stakes involved. As Fire pulls out all the stops to prove his devotion, Lynx must confront her own feelings and the very real possibility of falling for the man who’s always seemed to be joking – until now.

Review Never faking about you
Oh my goodness, "Never Faking About You" was an absolute riot! From the very first page, I was completely hooked by the whirlwind romance of Lynx and Fire. Their relationship is pure chaotic energy – a hilarious, heart-stopping rollercoaster of witty banter, explosive arguments, and undeniable chemistry. Aubry J. masterfully crafts this dynamic, keeping you guessing and giggling throughout. Fire, with his certifiably crazy antics, is a character you won't soon forget. He's the kind of hero who makes you laugh until your sides hurt, even as he sweeps you away with his surprisingly tender side. His devotion to his sons is incredibly heartwarming and adds a layer of depth to his otherwise over-the-top personality.
I especially appreciated how the author balanced the lighter moments with some genuinely serious themes. The book tackles important issues, like domestic violence and bullying, with sensitivity and nuance, weaving them seamlessly into the narrative without overshadowing the overall fun and flirty tone. It's a testament to Aubry J.'s skill as a writer that she can handle such weighty subjects while still keeping the story light and engaging. The plot twists are cleverly placed, keeping you on the edge of your seat, wondering what hilarious or heartbreaking turn will come next.
Lynx, with her unwavering strength and quick wit, is the perfect counterpoint to Fire's explosive personality. Their back-and-forth is electric, and while at times I found Lynx’s hesitancy frustrating (as some reviewers mentioned!), it also contributed to the overall tension and eventual payoff of their relationship. Their journey to overcome their obstacles and find their way to each other is both heartwarming and incredibly satisfying. The supporting characters are equally well-developed and add to the overall charm of the story; the whole cast of siblings, cousins, and friends feels like a vibrant, extended family you'd love to be a part of.
One thing that particularly stood out was the author's handling of Lynx's vitiligo. It wasn't just a plot device; it was woven organically into Lynx’s character, showcasing her confidence and self-acceptance. It was refreshing to see such authentic representation in a romance novel. This small detail speaks volumes about Aubry J.'s commitment to creating diverse and relatable characters.
While I did have a couple of minor quibbles (like the slight inconsistencies mentioned by other readers regarding Fire's locs and Lynx’s communication with Coy), they were easily overshadowed by the overall enjoyment of the story. This is a book that will leave you smiling, maybe even crying a little, and definitely craving more from this captivating world. "Never Faking About You" is easily one of the best reads I've had this year, and I'm already eagerly anticipating the next installment! Five stars, without a doubt.
